Sean swore, electricity arcing the length of his body. And somewhere inside of him the leash he’d been trying to keep on himself pulled taut.

He jerked away from her. She was panting, a glazed look in her eyes. “I thought I was the one who couldn’t handle it?’”

She still had no idea, did she?

He said nothing, lifting her up onto the table. Then he wrenched her dress up to her hips. Seams tore and she gave a soft gasping breath. He expected her to go still like prey in the jaws of a wolf, but she didn’t. She reached for his shirt and jerked it open, buttons popping off and scattering on the table around her.

“Holy shit, Abby,” he said roughly, panting like she was. “What are you trying to do?”

“You don’t think I’m strong enough for this, do you? You think I’m that needy little girl you knew back then. Well, heads up, Sean. You’re not the only one who’s f-fucking changed.” Then her hands were all over his chest, stroking, touching, sliding around his back as she pressed her mouth to his skin, the touch of her tongue sending his pulse rate sky-high.

Maybe it was the anger in her voice, or the little stutter she made over the profanity, or maybe it was just that her touch drove him insane. Whatever it was, the leash on his control snapped utterly and all his good intentions burned to the ground.

He slid his fingers into the waistband of her lacy panties and pulled them down her legs. Then he gripped her hips, pushed her further onto the table before climbing up after her, one knee on either side of her thighs, straddling her.

Her breathing was loud in the room, her chest heaving, her hair spread in a glossy brown mass on the glass surface of the table. She tried to sit up, reaching for his zipper, but he grabbed her hands, closing his fingers around both her wrists and holding her tightly.

“Lie down,” he said. “And don’t fucking touch unless you want this over and done with right now.”

She pulled against his hold, the look in her eyes glinting. “Make me.”

“You want to push, sweetheart? Consider me fucking pushed.” The tie around his neck was half off so he pulled it away, and before she could move, he wound it around her wrists, tugging it tight.

Her eyes widened, but there was no fear in them. “Sean … ”

“Now, lie down like a good girl.”

She stared at him, studying him as if looking for weaknesses. Then she smiled and lay back on the glass, lifting her bound wrists up above her head. The movement made her back arch, pushing her breasts against the fabric of her dress. So goddamn sexy. Her lashes lowered, thick and black, giving him a look that was all invitation. “Come on then. If you think you’re man enough.”

Adrenaline rocketed through him. The past fell away. The future burned to ash. There was only this moment. There was only her.

He undid his belt, his movements slowing as he realized she was watching him, her mouth slightly open, her breathing even faster. His fingers went to his zipper, tugging it down, freeing his aching dick. Christ, he was so hard he couldn’t think.

Luckily his wallet was in his back pocket and there was a condom inside it. He drew it out, tossed aside the wallet, then ripped the foil, sheathing himself.

This wasn’t going to be slow. This was going to be fast. Too fast. But shit, he didn’t think he could manage it any other way.

Shifting on the table, he looked down at her. “Spread your legs, sweetheart.”

  She bit her lip. “No.”

Goddammit, she should know by now she was playing with fire. He put his hands on the silky skin of her thighs and pushed them wide. The sharp sound of her indrawn breath was so damn sweet, and he couldn’t stop himself from looking down between her spread thighs, at the cluster of silky brown curls and pink, slick flesh. Jesus, she was beautiful. It had been dark in that bedroom and he hadn’t had a chance to see, he’d been too desperate. But now … oh, now he was older, and even though he was half out of his mind, he wanted a good look first.

  “S-Sean … ”

He reached down, spreading the soft wet folds of her pussy, and she trembled as he touched her. Then he positioned himself and pushed inside her, the sight of her taking him in the most erotic thing he’d ever seen in his life.

She groaned, arching up on the table, her arms still above her head. The heat of her body, the slick clasp of her around his cock was almost too much for him. It had never been this good. Never, ever. Not even the frenzied pleasure of their first night together.

He slid his hands beneath her hips, tilting her, pushing deeper. She gasped. He couldn’t stop looking at her, wishing he’d just torn that dress clean off her, had all that pale skin beneath him. But there was no way he could stop and do that now.

He drew his hips back, thrust again, deeper still. Abby moaned, moving with him, panting. Pausing, he slid his hands up the backs of her calves, gripping behind her knees, urging her legs up and around his waist. Then he leaned forward, his weight pushing against her, put a hand on one side of her head and looked down, meeting her gaze.

Then he began to move, driving himself into her, faster, harder. Her thighs tightened around his waist, her hips lifting with his, taking him. Taking every movement and matching it with her own. She lifted her hands up from the table, trying to loop her bound wrists around his neck, but he took the end of the tie and held them down. Then with his other hand he gripped her throat, feeling her pulse racing beneath his thumb.

  “Oh … God … Sean … ”

He knew he shouldn’t be overwhelming her like this. But he was simply unable to hold back. He wanted to take possession of her. Take possession so completely she wouldn’t be able to think of anyone else but him. Wouldn’t be able to feel anyone else but him.

Wouldn’t be able to remember all the bad shit that had gone on before.

He wanted to put his mark on her in some way. So that after this was over, when she looked at him, it wouldn’t be blood and loss that she’d remember, but pleasure.

He dealt in consequences and this time the consequences for her would be good ones.

Sean bent his head, kissed her hungrily. Her mouth, her throat. Hard kisses. Then his teeth, biting. Not hard but enough so she gasped. Moving faster as pleasure uncoiled through his body, getting sharper as her pussy tightened around his cock. She made a desperate sounding noise.

Scream, yeah, he wanted to make her scream.

Slipping a hand between them, he brushed his thumb over her clit. Once. Twice. And her body stiffened, the scream he’d been waiting for breaking from her.

Then he let himself chase his own release. Throwing himself into the dark heart of it, letting it crush him into dust.

  Chapter 5

Somewhere her cell phone was ringing but Abby couldn’t move. In fact she was having difficulty getting enough air in her lungs to breathe, let alone speak.

She hadn’t wanted Sean to hold back and he hadn’t. And now she was lying wrecked on the table of his fancy suite, her dress around her waist, her panties gone, her wrists bound with his tie. Trembling from the most intense orgasm she’d ever experienced in her entire life.

Which wasn’t saying much, since the only orgasms she’d had were ones she’d given herself, but still … There were lights exploding behind her eyes, she was sure of it.

God, what had she done? What had they done? She’d hated the way he seemed to think she was still the vulnerable teenager she’d once been and so she’d pushed him. Wanting to show him she was strong now. Strong enough to take him. And she had. Everything he’d thrown at her, she’d taken, and not only that, had given back, too.

Sean’s heavy weight on her shifted. “Your phone … ”

Abby opened her eyes, trying to sit up only to realize her hands were still bound.

“Here, let me.” He eased away from her, taking her hands in his and pulling at the loose knot, then unwinding it from around her wrists.

There were buttons scattered on the table everywhere, Sean’s shirt hanging open. S
he could see faint red marks on his tanned skin and his neck. Holy crap, had she put those there?

Shock at her own aggressiveness moved through her, along with a weird satisfaction, too. After Sean had left, after the miscarriage, she hadn’t been able to bring herself to get back into the dating scene again. That didn’t mean she’d gone totally without, though. Like any self-respecting woman in her early twenties, she had a vibrator and an excellent imagination.

She’d just never imagined anything like what she’d done with Sean.

Abby swallowed, her gaze clashing with his, heat prickling all over her body in a hot wash that left her breathless. The air between them charged and she was sure she could almost hear the hum of the electricity they generated.

God. If she wasn’t careful this would happen all over again. Right now.

  You want it to.

  Yes. She did.

“You going to answer that damn thing, or what?” Sean asked roughly, breaking the tense silence.

Dammit. Her phone. The loud shrilling of her ringtone seemed an offense against the silence of the room, reality butting in, making her aware that she was sitting on a table, half-naked, her panties on the carpet where Sean had dropped them.

She tore her gaze from Sean’s, sliding off the table, ignoring the ripped seam on her dress as she tugged it down, stumbling over to where she’d dropped her purse and digging her noisy phone out of its depths. The stupid thing stopped ringing just as she closed her fingers around it.

As she did so, Sean brushed past her, heading through the doorway to the bedroom. He didn’t say a word.

Abby bit her lip. Was he annoyed with her? She hadn’t meant to push him quite so hard but …

  You got angry.

Yeah, she had. Felt that anger well up inside her from a place she hadn’t known was there. Anger with him for acting all protective of her now when he’d been the one who’d nearly crushed her …

Her phone beeped, a message waiting. Bah. She didn’t want to think about this or have any kind of feelings about it other than satisfaction. It was only sex, nothing more. She hit her voice mail button, heard the limo driver’s voice asking her where she was and whether she still wanted him to wait. Oh crap. She’d said she would only be fifteen minutes but forty had since passed, and now she and Sean were officially twenty minutes late to his own party.

Right on cue a text message popped up on her phone. It was from Jax. Where’s Sean? He’s supposed to be here now.

Double effing crap. Now Jax knew they were late as well, to the party he’d organized especially for Sean. Hardly the best first impression to make, especially when it was kind of her fault. Damn, she hated putting Jax on the spot. Wasn’t she supposed to be more professional than this?

“What’s wrong?” Sean had come back from wherever he’d got to, leaning against the door frame of the bedroom, his shirt still hanging open, blond hair tousled all to hell. He looked sexy and gorgeous, and her mouth dried at the sudden and extremely X-rated thoughts that were currently parading through her brain.

No, stupid. They had a party to go to. And besides, hadn’t she thought this would be a one-off?

She looked back down at her phone, typing out a quick “on our way” text to Jax. “We’re late.”

  “Late for what?”

  “The party. Your party.”

Sean muttered something under his breath and ran a hand through his hair. “Shit. Forgot about that. Does it really matter?”

“Of course it matters. Being twenty minutes late for your own party isn’t a good look. Plus, there’s Jax. He’s expecting me—and by extension you—to be on time.” She put her phone back in her purse. “I don’t want to let him down.”

Sean’s dark eyes were assessing. “Are you okay?”

  “I hate being late.”

“I’m not talking about the stupid party.”

Oh, right. The sex, clearly. She lifted her chin, determined not to be embarrassed about it even though she kind of was. “Yes, I’m okay.”

  “I was rough.”

“Yes, you told me you would be. Hey, I asked for it. I wanted it. And I enjoyed the heck out of it. Now, could you go put on another shirt, please?” Turning away, she went back over to the table and picked up her panties. Luckily they were only slightly torn.

  “Abby.”

Damn, did he want to talk about it? She didn’t. Not yet. “Sean, we don’t have time to do an in-depth analysis. Get another shirt on. Please.”

“So we have sex on the damn table and all you’re worried about is being late for this fucking party?”

A little burst of anger shot through her. “Making sure you get to this ‘fucking party’ is part of my job. The last one I have to do for Morrow. So excuse me for wanting to make sure I do it well.”

He folded his arms, the lines of his face settling into a hard expression. “Then maybe you should have thought about that before you asked me to have sex with you.”

Like she didn’t know that already. The sex had done something to her, must have, because she didn’t know where else the anger had come from, barreling through her veins like a high-speed train. “What exactly is your problem?”

“You don’t think we should talk about this?”

“Talk about what? The sex? I thought we were clear on what each of us wanted.”

He looked at her for a long, silent minute, his jaw tight. “I mean all of it, Abby. The sex. Me leaving. The baby.”

“We’ve been through this, Sean. I told you—”

“You gave me the facts,” he interrupted harshly, “then told me you’re over it, which is so much bullshit I don’t even know where to begin.” He shoved himself away from the doorway, stalking over to her. “I want to discuss this and you keep deflecting me and I’m sick of it.”

He towered over her in the way he always did, slow-burning anger clear in his dark eyes. But she didn’t back away.

She put her shoulders back. “I know you don’t give a damn about letting people down, Sean. But I do. Jax is waiting for us and we’re already late. I’m not going to make it any later.”

Sean took a step closer to her, his big body taut. And an intense, electric thrill bolted down her spine, excitement crowding in her throat. Heat gathered between her thighs, which was just so not good.

“After the party then,” he said. “You’re coming back here and we are going to talk about this.”

She wanted to protest but now was not the time. The quicker she agreed, the quicker they’d get out of here, the sooner they’d be at the party. “Fine,” she said, trying for calm. “We’ll talk after the party. Now, do you think you could go put on another shirt? As much as the view is impressive, it’s not entirely appropriate.”

Sean stared at her, and she saw something else in his eyes, something that wasn’t only anger, a dark hunger that made the heat between her thighs get even hotter.

Tension pulled tight between them, the breath freezing in her chest.

Abruptly he pivoted on his heel and stalked back toward the doorway without a word.

Abby let out a slow, silent breath. It was relief she felt, surely. Not disappointment. Because they really didn’t have time for anything more, not right now.

Quickly, she pulled on her panties, smoothing down her dress and hoping no one would see the popped stitches on one of the side seams, then opened her purse and got out her compact. She touched up her lipstick and checked her hair. Once everything was back in place, she felt better, more able to cope.

Except she so did not want to come back here after the party for his little chat. She didn’t know quite what he was after—she’d told him the facts, what more did he want? Yet refusing would only look like she had something to hide and she didn’t. Nothing at all.

  “Let’s go.”

She snapped shut the compact and looked up. Sean was coming toward her in a new shirt, black this time, a blue tie knotted haphazardly at his throat. His hair had been shoved back f
rom his face but it was still too long. He looked thoroughly disreputable and completely and utterly sexy.

“Your tie needs redoing,” she said, her mouth gone dry.

“No, it doesn’t. You wanted to go now? Then let’s get going.”

  * * *

“The whole ‘I’m going to beat the shit out of you if you look at me sideways’ vibe you got going on there? Not helping, bro,” Donovan murmured in Sean’s ear as Jax finished up the introductions to yet another apparently important business colleague—some old guy with a fancy name who was now talking about a whole bunch of people he’d never heard of.

“I’m not doing a thing,” Sean said, trying to make some sense out of the conversation the old dude was having with Jax and failing.

“Sure you are,” Donovan said. “You’re standing there silently glaring at people. Ever heard of a thing called a smile? It’s where you turn your mouth up at the corner, put people at ease.”

Sean gritted his teeth. “I don’t give a shit about putting people at ease.”

  “Clearly.”

Irritation turned over in Sean’s gut. Jesus, this evening was turning out to be much worse than he thought, standing around pretending to make nice to a crowd of rich people who thought they were better than everyone else.

He didn’t know what the fuck Jax and Donovan expected from him. He didn’t have a store of witty comebacks or anecdotes like Donovan, or industry knowledge and intellectualism like Jax. He hadn’t been to college and he didn’t know a thing about business. Didn’t know any of the right people or anything about the families that moved in the same circles the Morrows did.

He didn’t know the rules of this particular world and that always made him uncomfortable. So he’d found his best tactic was to do what he always did in these kinds of situations, which was to stand there and observe. Listen to the conversations going on. Get a feel for the dynamics in the room. Sometimes just watching could tell you more about people than a whole lot of empty conversation ever could.
